Annäherungsalarm bei X-Meter bis zum Cache/WP

Hannes Respondek 5 years ago updated by sernikk 3 years ago 16

Mal schaun was sich da machen laesst.

- Alarm in ...Meter

- Ton / Vibrieren

OK :-)

Dann plane ich das mal...

I would LOVE this, but... 3 things :

What happens when my (android) phone is in my pocket with the screen off? I mean : Google will switch of the app until I turn on the screen again. I don't think it is possible to grab location to an app while screen is off. Even Google maps can't do that. Try: turn on Google maps. Turn off screen. Move a km. Turn on screen. Google maps still has you at the old location, and will only update when you turn on screen again.

Besides, grabbing location when the screen is off is a battery killer. When is gcdroid turned off completely? Task killer? App not in front?

And lastly : Google will look at this and think "nope. Privacy invasion that is not made by us".

So in my opinion this would only work while screen is ON. Please tell me I am wrong 😳

Hmm, I think you might be right that this would work only with the screen ON. As I remember my phone has set GCDroid with no battery saving, always access GPS, and so on, but it stills needs a short while to catch me afterward.
But honestly, that is only one of the cases.

You can think about this feature like the one from the Adventure Labs app - When you get into the "zone" your phone vibrates while you are in the lab description. That is good.

Now imagine this feature in GCDroid. You select this vibration ON, and you start your journey to the spot, you read the description meanwhile, see attributes and so on, and during this, your phone vibrates - you don't need to check if you are already there or not. Very useful in my opinion - especially on trails :)

Edit: I think this vibration would also work in the background. SO you can switch to a different app for example, and still get the notification. I think that would be useful.
